Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, which means lovers everywhere are planning romantic dinners, buying chocolates and ordering roses by the dozen. But if you want to switch things up this year, particularly those with a passion for travel, consider these 5 Valentine’s Day ideas for travel loving couples. From romantic getaways to travel inspired gifts, these love-day ideas are perfect for any love birds with a shared case of wanderlust.
PLAN A ROMANTIC GETAWAY
What better way for two travel lovers to spend V-Day than by taking a romantic trip together? Whether it’s an escape to a far flung sandy shore or a winter getaway to a cozy cabin in the woods, there are countless romantic cities around the world that are perfect for celebrating Valentine’s Day. I highlighted some of my favorite romantic cities in this post.
RECREATE A FAVORITE MEAL FROM YOUR TRAVELS
If you can’t actually travel for Valentine’s Day, why not relive a past trip by recreating one of your favorite dishes! For an extra special touch, decorate your dining room to resemble the restaurant where you shared your favorite meal abroad. It’s sure to be a romantic evening!
For me, it would have to be this little family owned Italian bistro my Russian and I stumbled upon one night while exploring Rome. From the red and white checkered tablecloth to the drippy candles and mouthwatering homemade pasta, everything about that night and meal was perfecto!
ENJOY A ROMANTIC STAY-CATION
Don’t have the time or means to plan a full vacation? No problem. You can enjoy a romantic stay-cation right at home! Book a room at a local bed and breakfast or stay downtown and plan a night out in the city. Try a new restaurant, go to a game or see a live show. You don’t have to go very far to have an extra special day and still feel like you’ve gotten away!
HAVE YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL PHOTOS FRAMED
Preserve some of your favorite travel memories together by framing photos of your travels and gifting them to your lover. Companies like Framebridge, Artifact Uprising and even Shutterfly offer online framing options that are both beautiful and user friendly! There’s no doubt your better half will cherish this sentimental gesture.
UP YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY GAME
If you and your boo are true travel lovers, chances are photography is also important to you. If you’re just starting out, consider signing up for a photography class together. For Valentine’s Day a few years back, I took my Russian to a photography class in Brooklyn that I found through Groupon. He had just gotten his first camera and that class really helped him take his travel photography skills to the next level. Has your significant other already mastered their DSLR? Why not spoil them with a lens upgrade, the latest GoPro or a drone!
Valentine’s Day can be a source of stress and anxiety for some, but it doesn’t have to be! Hopefully one of these ideas will help you plan the perfect travel-inspired celebration with the one you love.
