TRIBUTE TO A MATRIARCH ON MOTHER’S DAY

Tribute to a Matriarch on Mother's Day

I have been preparing to launch this site for the past few months.  Throughout this process, I have enjoyed not only reminiscing about my own travel adventures, but being inspired by those around me as well.  One of the main sources of inspiration is my gram, the beautiful Barbara  Hamilton.

The coast of France

Gram off the coast of France

She is by far one of the most well-traveled people I know, having visited over 20 countries.  It amazes me how she can still discuss with precise detail the history, landmarks and political landscape of each the many cities she has traveled to.  I grew up listening to her describe many amazing places and always dreamed of one day being able to see them first hand.

When I finally began to embark on my own adventures and acquire my own memories abroad, we developed an even deeper bond. We now can compare notes on places we have both been and marvel at those we still wish to see.  Her stories from around the globe along with her independent spirit and intense curiosity about the world around her were ingrained in me at an early age.  She is without a doubt one of the main sources that inspired my love of travel and for that I am eternally grateful.

So in honor of my beautiful gram, I thought it fitting that I not only launch House of Wend on Mother’s Day, but that I dedicate my very first post to this incredible woman.

Happy Mother’s Day to all and happy wending!
