CHECKING INTO LA PAUSE LUXURY DESERT CAMP

On the last day of our Morocco trip, everyone in the group shared their favorite aspect of our 7 day adventure. (In case you didn’t know, I recently traveled to Morocco with a group of 9 other people to celebrate a friend’s birthday.)

Some loved the hot air ballon ride at sunrise. Others enjoyed the relaxing beach town of Essaouira. My favorite part came at the end of the trip. Our overnight stay at La Pause luxury camp located in the Agafay desert was magical in so many ways and by the end of this post, I think you’ll know why!

GETTING THERE

One of the best things about La Pause is its proximity to Marrakech. It’s just a short 45 minute drive from the city, so even if you don’t have the time for an overnight stay, you can still enjoy the desert for the day.

We met a couple the morning we checked out who drove in from Marrakech to enjoy a quick lunch and a bottle of wine before heading back to the city!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the lovely French owner who served us glasses of refreshing mint & lime juice before escorting us to our rooms.

THE ROOMS

Get ready for some glamping! The rooms at La Pause are more accurately described as fancy tents. Each has its own comfy bed, plush rugs and oversized pillows perfect for sitting and enjoying a mint tea. Each also has its own private bathroom.

The tents zip fully closed for sleeping or, if you’re feeling brave, you can chose to leave it open and enjoy the moonlight and sounds of the desert.

My roommate, Jess, and I left our tent completely opened the entire night! It was mesmerizing to watch the moon and stars light the night sky over the sand dunes. But there were also a few unidentifiable creatures making sounds behind our tent that freaked us out! We squealed and laughed and still kept the tent open. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience!

Note: the website doesn’t allow for online booking, so you’ll have to call for pricing and availability. But similar properties in the area ranged from $100-$200 a night.

THE AMENITIES

There are many ways to enjoy your stay at La Pause. From the outdoor pool, to the yummy restaurants, to the mountain lounge area, there’s no shortage of rest and relaxation!

Taking a dip in the outdoor pool was our first priority after checking in. It left us all feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to enjoy the evening!

THE ACTIVITIES

If you want take your desert experience to the next level, you can book a horseback riding tour, practice your golf drive off the mountainside, try a bit of dirt biking or enjoy a magical camel ride.

Our sunset camel ride through the desert was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had. I was nervous at first, but after successfully hopping on and getting used to the wobbly ride I was able to relax and enjoy!

After our hour long tour, we returned to camp and were treated to aperitifs and small bites of dates, nuts and olives while traditional Moroccan musicians performed in the background. Afterwards, we headed back down to camp for a delicious 4 course dinner by candlelight.

The next morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of eggs cooked with red sauce and served in a tajine, a variety of breads, fruit, sweet mint tea and french toast. It was the best breakfast of the trip and the perfect way to end our stay.

I loved every minute of our stay at La Pause. My only regret is that we could stay one more night! If you’re planning a visit to Morocco, you MUST add a desert camp to your itinerary. I cannot recommend La Pause enough!
