WHY YOUR NEXT TRIP SHOULD BE TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

5 Reasons to Visit the Dominican Republic

It took me a while to decide where to spend my birthday this year. I knew I wanted an easy tropical destination where we could just relax and unwind.

After some research, I finally narrowed it down to a few options: Antigua, Bermuda and the Dominican Republic. I quickly eliminated the first two. Since I have never visited either, I knew I would feel pressure to get out and explore.

That left the Dominican Republic. I could not have been happier with my choice. We ended up have THE BEST time! If you’re considering an easy island getaway, here are a few reasons why your next trip should be to the Dominican Republic!

IT’S SAFE

I’l be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about traveling to DR given the recent reports of unexpected tourist deaths, I decided to do a bit more research. to determine if it was safe. After reading that U.S. State Department had discovered no sign of foul play and that despite the reports there had been no increase in reported deaths of American tourists in the Dominican Republic, I felt safe to travel there.

We had such a smooth trip without any incident. We hired a private driver at the airport who shuttled us to and from the airport and spent our entire stay on the property. I felt at ease the entire time and didn’t shy away from the hotel’s open bar! And we made it back safe and sound!

IT’S AFFORDABLE

With countless all inclusive resorts to choose from, it’s usually easy to find a good deal in the Dominican Republic. There are plenty of options for under $200 that include all meals, alcohol, entertainment, water sports and other amenities depending on the property. We narrowed it down to Occidental Punta Cana, Riu Republic and Catalonia Royal Bavaro.

We booked a 4 night stay at Catalonia. We went with this one because it was adults only but connected to a family property. It was also a bit smaller and quieter than the other properties, it had free wifi throughout and it was only a 20 minute drive to the airport.

IT’S BEAUTIFUL

There’s a reason the Dominican Republic is one of the most popular destinations for U.S. tourists. Not only is it affordable, it is an absolutely gorgeous island. Lush palm trees, turquoise water, golden sunrises and peach sunsets. It truly is a little slice of paradise.

THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO

All we had on our agenda was lounging under the palm trees and visiting the beach bar to refill our drinks. But had we been in the mood for a bit more activity, there were plenty of ways we could have entertained ourselves.

There was a water sport rental shop right next to our resort. You could rent kayaks and sail boats or take a ride on the 4 person inter-tube. Off the property, there were a number of excursions including zip-lining, ATV tours and even day parties and nearby resorts.

IT’S EASY

Easy to get to and easy to enjoy! I just wanted to have as relaxing a trip as possible. With multiple flights a day, it’s easy to reach the Dominican Republic. And once you arrive at your resort, everything is taken care of. No need to worry about transportation or finding restaurants or nightlife, everything is there for you in one place.

I haven’t felt so relaxed in long time. Don’t get me wrong, I love the more challenging travel that we do, but every once in a while, it’s nice to go somewhere beautiful and just enjoy!
