BEACH, EAT, STAY: A HAMPTONS WEEKEND GETAWAY

Throughout my time living in New York, I have often heard friends tell stories about fabulous summer weekends spent in the Hamptons.  I took a day trip there several years ago, but this summer was the first time I had  a proper Hamptons weekend of my own.  12 girls, lots of booze, sun and sand…doesn’t get much better!  Below are my suggestions to help you plan your next Hamptons weekend getaway!

Welcome to the Hamptons

BEACH

Most beaches require season parking permits. For those just in town for the weekend, there are several paid lots within walking distance. We went to Main Beach in Easthampton where public parking was $25 a day. The beach was beautiful with miles of white sand, breezy dunes, and stunning Hamptons houses. It happened to be quite chilly the day we went, but I’m sure that on a hot sunny day it would be easy to entertain yourself for hours in the sun, sand and waves.

EAT

Nothing quite beats a backyard bbq especially one shared with friends around a heated pool! The Hamptons has countless gourmet and specialty markets where you can pick up fresh steaks, seafood and seasonal veggies. Throw everything on the grill, pop open a bottle of sparkling rose and you’ve got yourself the perfect summer meal.

If you’d prefer to dine in town you’ll find several delicious options. We ate at Moby’s, which serves up elevated New American cuisine. Fresh pasta, salads, fish and yummy appetizers…you can’t go wrong! The best part is that after dinner, the back room turns into a trendy lounge serving up craft cocktails & music creating the perfect atmosphere for Hamptons mingling. Sit at a picnic table under the tent or head outside under the flowering trees adorned with twinkling lights and enjoy a whimsical evening!

For a truly special dining experience, head across the bay to Shelter Island. The only way to access the island is via ferry, which just adds to the whole experience. Sunset Beach is an adorable seaside hotel with stunning views and a fabulous restaurant & bar. Grab a table on the first floor and kick your shoes off in the sand or head upstairs for a perfect view of the sunset. The food is delicious, the people are beautiful and the beach is serene. It was the perfect ending to a lovely Hamptons weekend.

STAY

It’s no secret that the Hamptons are the go to getaway for many New Yorkers. Because of that, houses fill up fast! If you can get a large group organized, try to go in on a house together.  If you’re just looking for a romantic couple’s getaway, you can rent individual rooms. Regardless, it’s important to plan ahead and book early! Not only will you have a better chance of actually finding availability, but you may be able to get a better deal. However, I would suggest avoiding peak weekends like Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.  It’s hard to go wrong whatever you decide! So, enjoy and happy wending!
